The Environment Quality and Economics Growth in China-A literature Review and Discussion

Considering that the coordination of economic development and environmental protection has become a worldwide concern and that China's environmental pollution and ecological destruction are mainly attributable to limitation of its future economic development, this paper presents a discussion on the symbiotic relationship between the economic development and environmental protection. The presentation is based upon an extensive literature overview with a strong focus on Chinese research publications. According to the overview China is facing a growing imbalance between economic achievements and the quality of the environment. In the paper, the Environment Kuznets Curve (EKC) and findings from the overview are uses provide explanations as to why China is facing this kind of problems. At last, the concept of a circular economy is presented and used to discuss possible policy measures that might be applied in order to mitigate the describe conflicts.
